Icons in "My Network Places"

I've searched Google Groups and this newsgroup and can't find the answer to
what should be a very simple problem.

In my home network, when I view My Network Places, I see every available
share on all computers on the network. I don't want to see all the shares
available, I only want to see the computers on the network as I do in
Windows 2000 and Vista.

How can I change this behaviour?

um I'm not sure how to do it there but you could always click on
entire network and then your workgroup/domain and you will only see
the local computers instead of the shares.

See if this applies to your need:

"You simply append a dollar sign ($) to the resource's share name. When you
do, the shared resource won't appear on the network. Furthermore, any access
restrictions or passwords assigned to that shared resource remain in
effect."

Thanks, everyone, for your advice. Unfortunately, I guess it isn't that
simple -or- it IS that simple ... Windows XP just won't behave and can't be
made to behave the way we're (my family) is accustomed to. There are 8
computers on our home network, each sharing the majority of their resources
on the network. When any family member double-clicks on "My Network Places"
they're presented with a window populated by over fifty icons. Ridiculous;
even more so when there are one or more laptops connecterd.

The problem was solved by double-clicking "My Network Places",
double-clicking "Entire Network", double-clicking "Mucrosoft Windows
Network" and then dragging a shortcut to our home network to the desktop.
When a family member then double-clicks that desktop shortcut, the result is
what we're looking for.
