sndvol32.exe

I am trying to install a microphone and when i go to the Sounds and Audio
device and then under audio i click the volume button i get the error message
"windows cannot execute sndvol32.exe. Use add/remove programs control panel
to install How do i locate and install this device

Do you have any audio at all? If not:
Is your audio driver installed/present in Device Manager? If not install
it.
Is it reported to be working correctly in the device properties? If not
what is the code reported in it's properties?

Will sndvol32.exe open from Start > Run? If not and your audio is
installed and reported to be working, try extracting the file from the i386
folder on the hard drive or XP install disk.

Al Falfa
I was having the same problem as jackie and your instructions above fixed it thanks very much. I didn't have a multimedia section within the details but I installed it anyway and all the volume controls came back.
