"Snap To" mouse setting won't disable

I am having a problem with the "Snap To" feature for my
mouse pointer. For those that don't know, "Snap To"
causes your mouse pointer to automatically jump to the
default button in a new window that opens.

A couple of weeks ago, I installed an update to my
computer (I think it was from Windows Update) that
changed my mouse drivers. Ever since then, whenever a
new window with a button opened up, my mouse pointer
would jump to the button. I absolutely hate
this "feature" as it causes my mouse to jump away at
inopportune times, and could cause me to inadvertently
click a button that I didn't want to (such as when some
website gives me a pop-up asking if I want to download
Gator....Heck No).

I uninstalled the "Mouse Suite" and went back to the
original mouse settings. However, the problem still
exists. I went to the Mouse settings in Control Panel,
and went to "Pointer" (or whatever the exact title is),
and the "Snap To" box is clearly unchecked. I tried
checking it, clicking apply, and unchecking it, to see if
that would fix it. Didn't work. I even searched online,
and found instructions to edit the registry
(start>run>regedit). This didn't work either (the value
was already set to 0). Does anyone out there have any
idea how to fix it, short of reformatting my whole hard
drive and starting over (which I obviously don't want to
do)? I absolutely hate the Snap To "feature."

I'm using a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop with AMD Athlon
XP 1.8 GHz processor. I sometimes use the touch pad, but
have a USB mouse to go with it as well. It doesn't
matter if I'm using the mouse or the touch pad, the
trouble still exists.

I was looking at the tweaks in Kelly's Korner. There were several
dealing with starting the snap-to option but none I could see with
stopping it.

In the registry, you might try running Find to see if you have
snaptodefaultbutton if that doesn't duplicate your initial search.
