Smart quotes

Hans Castorp

Hello,
Could anyone please explain me how to type smart quote in
a footnote? I have set the preferences to smart quotes,
the opening quote is all right, but the closing quote is
wrong; it has the form of an opening quote whereas it
should have the form of a closing quote. Thank you very
much for your help, yours,
Hans Castorp

Type CTRL+` release then " for the left set and CTRL+' then " for the right
set
For single quotes
CTRL+` release then ` for the left set and CTRL+' then ' for the right set

Graham gave you the real answer, but you aren't typing a space between the
end of the quotation and the smart quotation marks, are you? That would
cause the problem.
