slow xp

I have been hearing about a dramatic slow down with
windows xp after installing a microsoft security patch. I
think i have this problem. MS is or was suppose to
release a fix for the problem. does any one know where i
can find the fix?
 
i do but it says that like 20 apps wont work properly if
it is unistalled
