My windows xp home edition operating system is running very slow especialy
when I go on the internet. When I attempt to open a web site it usually takes
two or three or more tries - my computer just freezes up. When a web site
won't open the following appears at the bottom of the screen -

res://c:\winnt\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm...

I've checked/done the following:

1) Ran diagnostics on the hard drive, memory, mother board and CPU - all are
ok.
2) Emptied the temporary internet folder.
3) The hard drive has 81% free space so disk defragmentation is not needed.

I'd really appreciated any help you could offer.

Thanks,

Roger

The #1 reason for connectivity and slowness problems in Windows is malware.
Since you didn't mention the malware status of your machine, please review
the general removal steps here:

If you haven't done anything like that, please do so. Post back afterwards
if you need more help.

Free space dont mean you don't need to defrag.
What protection are you using, virus, malware...?

First, note that how much free space you have has *nothing* to do with
whether you need to defrag or not.

However, I doubt that that's your problem. The most common reason for such
problems these days is malware infestation. I recommend that you go to
Malke's Malware Removal site at
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware and follow
the instructions there.
