Slow Print Problems

Steve B.

Customer has a Pentium II 350mhz computer with 384mb memory and XP
with SP2 and all updates. The computer runs at the speed you would
expect for this class computer and is only used for e-mail and
occasional internet browsing. Customer has an HP DeskJet 932 printer.

Within the last month they have started having print issues. On
average it takes five minutes per page for a document to print. If
you try to print a three page document you will wait 15 minutes for
the printer to react. The document shows in the queue and the
computer doesn't appear to be doing anything but waiting.... I can
still browse the internet or do anything else I want to do and there
is no disk activity unless I cause it. The printer works fine from my
laptop. I am just trying to print plain word documents. No graphics
or fancy stuff

I have run a complete virus/spyware cleanup. I have removed
everything from the startup section using msconfig. I have run a
cleaun use ccleaner. I have tried Normal, EPP and ECP settings for
the port, I have disabled and enabled bi directional and I have tried
the printer using parallel and USB connections. No matter what I do
it averages a five minute wait per page before it prints. Strangely
enough if I start the HP diriector and do a test page from there I get
the color butterfly and HP logo immediatley unless something else is
in the queue before it. Small docs like one word word documents also
come out pretty fast but more than two lines takes me back to the five
minute wait.

Any ideas where I can look for this problem?

Have you tried removing the printer and its drivers and reinstalling them
after a REstart?

Steve,
You might try going to the HP web site and checking for updated drivers for
the printer and the OS for the computer. HP now has an "automatic" notifier
you can download which will, about once a month, ask if you want it to check
for updates.... HTH
