Slow Performance after inactivity

I have a couple of newer computers that are running XP Pro and it
seems that if we leave them on overnight, when we come in the next
day, they run REALLY slow. Opening Windows Explorer takes forever and
sometimes just hangs. A restart fixes it, but it just doesn't seem
right.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you need more memory on those computers. How much ram do you have in those computers? I bet if you upgraded to about 512MB or 768MB you wouldn't have this problem. Another thing it could be is the power saving settings I have noticed those and screen savers can cause weird problems so I usualy disable those.

Do not as suggested blindly assume you do not have enough RAM.

This sounds like you have an item of 'malware' that is running in the
background, and demanding ever more resources - memory or CPU. In the
morning open up task Manager (r-click in the Task bar to find it), and
look on the Processes page. Ensure that View - Select columns includes
Memory Use, Memory Use Delta and CPU Usage. Look for something
absorbing a great deal of either. If explorer is using a lot of CPU
then spyware is likely - http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm as a start
