Slow installs

I hope somebody can tell me why when doing an upgrade
from windows upgrade site the units I pick download in
seconds but the install takes forever. I can install a
gig program in a couple min.

It has nothing to do with the size of the software package. A one gig
program may have .95 gig of media files. A critical update is upgrading the
operating system and during that process a lot is going on including the
fact that update may have to look at the uniqueness of your particular
operating system installation and possibly examine thousands of files on

.. . . as well as possiblly needing to stop and then restart
things in order to free files for replacement, update the
dllcache, etc. . .
