What does your ISP tell you to do?

Ask Your Brother Rodny and he will tell you that our ISP supply 5MBs, but
sometimes the server you try to swonload from is busy or a mirrored Image can
be slow Delboy.
Where you downloading Delboy and does it happen with every download.

My ISP asked me to to run some check
I have done all the checks and did not come up with any faults
deleting file etc
power up modem/pc
ckecking CPU usage
ckecking micro filters
disable firewall
I am still waiting for them to get back to me
I also read the How> To Ask Questions The Smart Way i am new to this but i
will try harder in the future

That is just my standard signature...
It was not *directed* at you in particular.

What type of connection is this?
(Cable Modem, DSL, Satellite, other?)

How is it connected to your PC?
(USB, wireless, ethernet, phone line, other?)

Are your hardware drivers 'up-to-date'?
(Particularly your Motherboard Chipset and Network Card?)

Do you have some sort of router between your computer and the 'modem' device
used to connect to you ISP (or is the modem a router?)

No it is all the time on the internet but i have tryed it at 2am and its
still poor

I no harm done its only my sense of humor

My PC is a Dell Dimension1100 6 month old
I have BT hub phone(routor)
I am wireless

Is your ISP BT Yahoo?

What broadband service do you have? Is 2 mb or 8 mb? What distance are
you from the exchange?

Test your line:

Have you tested with a wired rather than wireless connection?

Are you in a problem area?

5 mb is not very good for a 8 mb service? My service is presently 2 mb
and the reading was 1861 kb this morning. I am upgrading to 8 mb (
told to expect 7 mb) and should have it working next Saturday if all
goes well. Only 1.6 miles from exchange.

Hi Gerry,
You will never get the Speed mark which labled on your connection by your ISP.
If you have 2MBs you will get 1.7 or 1700KB will not get near the 90% for
sure. If you have 8MBs your range will be between 7.6 - 7.7 if you lucky and
your ISP provider that good!!.
Again it depend on what the OP is using, what kind of connection and if
he/she live in a busy Wireless neighbourhood with lots of Wireless
interference that will make it slow (assuming the OP using Encryptin,WEP,WPA)
to secure His/Her Wireless Network, the Line and the Environment where he/she
live.

Your remarks regarding wireless are interesting and not something I
have seen mentioned before. I have always been wary of wireless
connections preferring a wired connection on the basis that they
should be more reliable. I can appreciate why people choose wireless.

I had a spell using a computer in an office next to an engineering
workshop. There was a large machine the other side of the brick wall
and when the machine started up it caused problems for my computer. The
problem ceased every lunch time when the machine was switched off. It
created a magnetic field and the solutions were to shield the computer
or move it further away from the machine. Fortunately from my point of
view the business next door vacated and the new tenant did not have
machinery creating the problem.

Is your machine giving only a 5 gb download speed wired or wireless?
