Slow Contact Search

I have a user who has rights to her bosses mailbox and said mailbox open
with in her outlook 2K3 client. Our backend is Exchange 2K3.

When she does a search on her contact list it performs as expected.
However, when she searches on the bosses contact list it seems very slow. I
say seems because I've notice that if I click search, wait a second or two,
and then click stop the expected results actually show up but the search
doesn't actually stop so the Clear button is still grayed and the spy glass
is still moving. If I don't click stop the results list remains blank until
outlook decides it finished searching. Then the list is populated with the
results. The contact list has about 900 - 1000 contacts.

This problem happens in both cashed and non cashed modes.

Anyone have any idea what's going on or how to fix the problem?

Yes but that's not really the issue. On occasion it does search properly
and results show up with in a second or two of clicking the search button.
In addition I have well over that number of contacts in my own contact list
and searches return results almost immediately along with a couple of larger
public folders which also return results quickly.

The issues is that it appears as if outlook has actually found the records
but for some reason takes a long time to display them as if it thinks it
still searching.

As I said in my OP, if I click search wait a second or two and click stop
the results are displayed, however, outlook thinks it's still searching
because the Clear button is still gray and the spy glass is still animated.
After a while, sometime minutes Outlook decides it's finished searching and
I can then clear the search and start a new one.

Create an Index on the Information store and search with "advanced" search
in OL or online.

Indexing has already been run. The thought of using advanced find is
impractical in this situation. This has to happen as fast as possible with
as few as steps as possible so the user needs to simply enter the name and
hit search. The extra steps of clicking advanced and using that interface
won't fly. Seems like it should matter but in this environment it does.
