Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I've used v1.0.0.106 under win98se since forever. It does not
support incoming calls but the computer<->computer and
computer<->telephone work well.

FYI, version 1.3.0.66 seems to run no problems with Win98SE.

Thanks for the report. According to Dariusz' recent post, even the
latest "version 1.3.0.66 seems to run no problems with Win98SE."

The latest version is Version: 1.3.0.67. Release date: September 10, 2005,
and is for Win ME & XP, and will not run on my Win98SE system.

Uh oh. And I'm two whole days behind on Skype version releases? Where
have I been? Thanks, DanlK ;)

So then it would appear that version 1.3.0.66 might be the last one
that will run on Win 98SE? Can anyone tell me where to get a copy? Or
perhaps post it to http://www.yousendit.com/, advising the link.

OT, did anyone see that eBay will be buying out Skype? And what will
that do to a "free" service?

Many thanks for all the experimentation and investigation. Regis

Done. But I can't vouch for it working on 98SE, as I haven't tried it
myself (and we have only one report, so far, that it does).

Define "tried it" please.
Did you complete an actual call?
A Skype EchoCall Test using this version causes a Skype program error in my
Win98SE system.

No, I didn't complete an actual call, and why, pray tell, should I
define "tried it"? Did you actually read what I wrote? Please note that
I said: "I *can't* vouch for it" and "I *haven't* tried it." Apparently
you *have* tried it and *can't* vouch for it, either, which is
disappointing to know. BTW, exactly what do you mean by "using this
version"?

That musta been one popular download. I just went looking for it, and
was told:

"Unfortunately, the link you have clicked is not available.

Your transfer cannot be completed. Most likely the file has exceeded
its allotted bandwidth or has been removed by the original sender or a
recipient."

I don't suppose I could impose upon you once again?

Many thanks, Regis

OK. Try this. I'm wondering if something went wrong the first time?

Also, please note that two people in this thread have commented on using
Skype 1.3.0.66 with Win98SE now. Although Dariusz says that it runs
"with no problems on Win98SE," FYIS.org/estore claims it won't work at
all with Win98SE. (And I haven't tried it, myself.) YMMV.

Thanks very much Daze. I'll steel myself and install it after I back
up everything } I suspect it may or may not work based upon which
apps are already installed. Some may contain DLLs that are required to
run this vs. of Skype. I have run into this before with other XP only
apps. I will advise in due course.

Differences in success may also have something to do with system
processor, RAM, etc, too.

I have a copy of the 1.3.0.66 if it's needed, post request here and I'll
upload it somewhere. However, I just installed 1.3.0.67 - the latest
version - and it too runs on my Win98SE setup.

Maybe I'm more lucky or have a less messed up system? I don't know, but it
DOES run. I just did an "echo" test (nobody else online atm), and it
played and recorded fine.

I did see on the Skype site that it makes NO mention of Win98SE, just
WinXP or Win2000.

Hmm. Perhaps the lack of mention of Win98SE just means that they're not
really testing it with the older OSs, making it a YMMV situation.
