skin icons in title bar and notification area?

Hey all

I am wondering if someone on this vast expanse of knowledge that is the
internet can help me.

I am looking for a way to skin the icons for applications in the title
bar and the notification area. I run antivir for my AV and that red
umbrella is k i l l i n g me. I'd like to skin some others as well.

Are there any applications (freeware preferably) that would allow me to
do this?

Thanks :)

Right click the EXE file itself and select Properties. You can change the icon for the program from there (for most programs). The vast majority of EXE's get their icon from one that's actually stored inside the file itself.

Yeah that didn't work unfortunately. I remember using a program a few
years back, some kind of icon browser that would open the .exe or .dll
that contained the icons, and would allow you to edit them.

I can't remember what it's called though :-\

ResHacker will allow you to do this. However, if you modify a file that Windows considers critical, it will automatically be replaced with a backup by Windows File Protection.
