singing along with music

Hiya

I want to know if there is a way I can use my headphones
which have a mic to sing along with, and hear myself
singing along with, my music. Sort of like karaoke. I
want to be able to play my music on my media player with
my headphones on, but also be able to sing into the mic
along with the music. Can it be done? and if so how? I
have tried to figure this out on my own but am just at a
loss as to how to do this.

Is the mic input unmuted in the system mixer?
