silly word pad question

silly question here but I honestly don't know why word pad does this or how
to fix it. I type my name-
Namey McName.
Then I decide I want to put "my name is" in front of it.
I type "my name is" but instead of moving Namey McName over further to the
right, it types right over it, replacing it. Meaning I have to type the whole
thing out. This happens every so often when I open a document to rework it.
Is it because I opened it in another program? thats the only thing I can
think of. But is there a way to fix it?

That is quite an annoying problem. What happens when you press the "Insert"
key? That is the easiest fix and the only one I can come up with.

It has nothing to do with WordPad; it would be the same in any
application. Almost certainly, you simply pressed the Insert key
accidentally. The Insert key toggles between the two modes Insert
and Overstrike. You wanted to be in Insert mode, but you were in
Overstrike mode.

Because the Insert key is immediately to the right of the
backspace key, it's very easy to hit it accidentally. Personally,
I *never* want to be in Insert mode and I am prone to hitting the
key accidentally, so I have the functionality of that key turned
off. If you do a google search, you can find instructions for
editing the registry to accomplish that.
