WORD PAD QUESTIONS!

In Word Pad can you please tell me how I can set it up so that when I hit the
enter button on the keyboard where it will double space itself by going to
the next 2 lines on down automatically so that I won't have to hit the enter
button twice to do so. I noticed that sometimes it will do it on it's on and
I never ever know quite why it's doing that. Can you please explain why it
might be doing that on it's on without any interaction on my part without
setting it up to do that.

Also, I was wondering if you might be able to tell me why this happens as
well in Word Pad sometimes. Sometimes when I am typing and I make a mistake
and either put the cursor next to the mistake and click there and either
backspace or the delete button to correct the mistake it will start
overwriting what I have already typed ahead of it which is not the mistake
part and eventually that part will end up disappearing altogether. The same
thing will happen sometimes when I put the cursor there just to add more
words as well. I have noticed that in order to keep it from doing that I have
to click the part ahead of it and then hit enter so that it will go on down
to the next line to keep it from doing that. I love using word pad every
chance that I get and I don't wont to quit using it just for this very
reason. Other times it won't act up at all like that and act normal just like
it's suppossed to. Can you please tell me how to fix this or what setting I
need to go into to do that. Can you please tell me what might be causing this
problem as well as this is so so annoying and very very frustrating to say
the least.

For your "overwrite/insert" issue, please toggle the Insert key. As to
the "double spacing" no idea unless it is something in options that you
picks. You could press F1 and see what you can find that matches your
symptoms.

Open Wordpad and immediately save the file. Press Ctrl+2 and click
the Save button on the Toolbar. Now when you type your document, the
text will automatically double-space. For those documents that have
already been created, open them and choose Edit | Select All from the
Menu Bar. Press Ctrl+2 and all text will be double-spaced.

Ctrl + 2 - Double Space
Ctrl + 5 - Space and a half
Ctrl + 1 - Single Spaced

You are probably falling victim to what is called "fat fingering". You are
accidentally pressing the Insert Key, at times, which is toggling the insert
feature on and off. You are accidentally pressing the Ctrl Key as you press
the Shift key and then number 2 as you try to create an "@" sign in your
WordPad document.

The Insert key is a "toggle key" (like the Num Lock key or the Caps Lock
key) and when it gets "turned off" new text will automatically overwrite the
text in front rather than insert text when the Insert key is toggled on.
Unfortunately there is no way to tell if the key is on or off. Whoever
decided it should be placed so close to the Backspace Key should be A$$
Kicked. It would be nice if there was a light on the keyboard to show if
Insert is on or off like the Num Lock and Caps Lock keys. Windows has a
function in the Control Panel->Accessibilities section for other toggle keys
like Caps or Num Lock but it doesn't work for the Insert Key. There are
little apps that will emit a beep to notify you if you have toggled the key.

Ok for the double space trick. This is an undocumented WordPad trick and why
it isn't listed in the Help file is beyond me. In WordPad hold down the Ctrl
Key and press the following keys 1, 2 or 5 depending on the line spacing you
want.

1 to enable single line spacing (Ctrl+1)
2 will enable double line spacing (Ctrl+2)
5 will enable single and a half line spacing (Ctrl+5)

Once the Key combo Ctrl+2 is pressed you can use the Enter Key as you
mentioned you want to.

Lawdy, Kenny, anything more that I could say would be purely
conjecture. I would have to be sitting next to you watching what you
were doing before I could offer any meaningful insight. Like many
questions posited in this forum, the questioner provides only as much
information that describes the problem, but omits those tiny little
clues that would illuminate the solution. Troubleshooting a problem
like yours in this venue is like taking potshots in the dark. Ah

I can only speculate but the problem likely has to do with you accidentally
enabling the double space by inadvertently pressing the key combo (also
called fat fingering) while trying to type the @ symbol.
