Word Pad

I'm trying to use Word Pad more to create shorter, text-only documents. I've never really used it

I'm wondering about it's features

1. When I open a new Word Pad document, the formatting defaults to Times New Roman at 10 pt font. Can this default be changed, so that when I open a new Word Pad document, it will open to my new settings ? I don't see a switch for this

2. There are several file types I can save a Word Pad document in. I'm trying to learn more about Rich Text Format. What are the advantages/ disadvantages to rtf ? What can you do with rtf that you can't with doc file ? I notice the memory required for rtf is quite a bit more than a doc file.

Thanks in advance.

It can be done, but not easily. See this article: http://tinyurl.com/38d2q

As for #2, RTF is pretty much universal in that any word processor past or
present can open them. So a document composed in Word and saved as RTF can
be opened in WordPerfect, for instance. RTF files are generally smaller than
the corresponding DOC file, too.
