Signatures cause crash

I'm still having a problem with Windows mail. I've tried three different
methods of backing up my mail files and settings. In each instance,
everything seems fine except the "Signatures." I had simple little
signatures that I had typed in. After importing my files and settings for
Windows mail I noticed that the "signatures" were grayed out and the text
was missing. When I clicked on them to edit, WM crashed immediately. I can't
click anything to edit them without the whole program crashing.

My methods were:
Saving my files and the proper registry keys,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\IAM
After Windows installation, I put the file folder back, removed the above
keys and merged the ones I had saved into the registry.
After this failed, I re-installed Windows and tried restoring my files from
Windows Backup. Same results.

I'd like to be able to merge my reg keys to keep my settings but I need to
fix this crashing problem.

Thanks,
Ed

The signatures are stored under this location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\signatures

I would delete anything under that and then set up the signatures again.
Also 3rd party programs (e.g. AVG) have been reported to cause signature
problems, so you might take a look at point 3 here:
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 and check for 3rd party program interference.

Thanks Steve, that did the trick. I'm using Avast! Home (free) av but it's
configured to not scan e-mail.

PS. My first NEW signature.

I suspect there was some registry glitch when you did the import. Avast
appears to be fairly benign, so far anyway.
