Signature Update

One of my laptops will not update the signatures. I tried the what was
suggested in 915105 but that did not work. I uninstalled Defender,
downloaded the most recent build and installed. When I check for Updates in
ends up with the same signature version I had before the clean-up and
uninstall, "1.14.1315 built on 3/8/2006 at 3:06 AM".

I also tried the 9 step process suggested by Big V in the 3/23/06 post.
Still no luck.

Seeing as though the same signature version keeps coming up it is like this
is not being cleared out.

Suggestions??

When I had a problem with my own system on the last update, 915105 didn't
seem to help either.

My next step was:

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;290301

Install, run, and choose Windows Defender Signatures --NOT Windows Defender
itself.

I followed that up by several attempts to put the new version in place
directly from the .EXE file whose URL I found by searching
\windows\windowsupdate.log--starting at the bottom, and searching up--until
you find a very long URL ahead of the .EXE.

http://au.download.windowsupdate.co..._5c1bd30ebec0a7aa132f42dcf00618ea68711cda.exe

was what I came up with.

For whatever reason--I tried this several times, before the UI in the
program changed and showed the new version as installed. It may simply be
that I was too impatient.
