*sigh* TOC picking up unwanted text

I'm trying to create a TOC in Word 2003 using Insert >> Field >> TOC.
All I want is Heading 1. I even went through the doc with a macro to
select every paragraph with Heading 1 style to make sure I would only
get what I wanted. But I get huge chunks of test that happen to be
adjacent to the heading, even though they _seem_ to be formatted
Normal.

Any suggestions for overcoming this?

Turn on the paragraph mark and check to make sure that the Heading 1 is
ending in a paragraph mark and not a soft return. I've had this happen and it
usually means that I've imported text from somewhere and it is filled with
soft returns...

Hi, Rickijayne.

soft returns...

I always work with the symbols showing. Each line ends in a hard
return. The Heading 1 style is applied only to the one line.

It was the checkbox "Outline levels". Whatever it does, I don't want
it!!
