Sidewinder joypad

I have a Sidewinder joypad that has a gameport connector. When I
upgraded my mobo to an Asus P4P800S, the connection stopped working.
When I go to auto select the Sidewinder, it thinks it's a Sidewinder 3d
Pro (it's just a standard gamepad) and it cycles between "OK" and "Not
Connected."

I thought getting a gameport to USB adapter might fix that, but it just
does the same thing. The drivers for this new "USB" device I've
concocted can't be found... (Maybe because there aren't any for the
older style pad?)

What bugs me is that the gameport through my Audigy card used to work
fine with the old mobo, but won't work now. I've already gone the route
of upgrading the BIOS with no success.

I'd be grateful if someone can provide me with some information on how
solve this problem.

Try the Knowledge Base article KB236113, or go to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;236113&Product=swp .
If you just upgraded to a much faster MB you may get help
here, but the patch only works to MBs with 100Mhz bus
speed.
I never got mine to work after my last upgrade although
it's worked fine for many years, on many systems.
A new joystick was the only solution that worked
completely. I got the old stick to work ( at least to
connect ) as an old FlightStick but it really never could
keep up.
