Shutdown problem

chrissssss..........

I'm running Windows XP on a newish computer with SP2. I have not installed
or uninstalled any programmmes for a while. All of a sudden when I click
shutdown, the computer locks up showing the normal message "Windows is
shutting down". I have to press the OFF button to close.
Anyone know how to fix this and why it's happening?
