Shutdown issue / MS Money Installation error

I hope someone out there has a few suggestions for a pretty intractable
issue I have had for 9 months now.

I get a preiodic install dialog that appears and disappears within seconds.
This is just a pure annoyance, and it started when I installed Service Pak 2
without shutting down all the programs open at the time.

I have since uninstalled and reinstalled SP 2 twice and the issue has not
been resolved.

Recently I purchased a new version of Money online, downloaded it and
attempted to install it. However, it refused since it said there was another
installataion of Money that had not finished.

I believe that my shutdown issue is related. The only way to shutdown is to
press and hold the power button. The software shutdown will hang when it
gets to the "Windows is shutting down" message.

I have already purchased Registry Mechanic under sthe suspicion that there
was a rogue registry setting. I ran the complete check and repaired all 500+
errrors and nothing has changed.

Also, I read another person's thread regarding shutdown issues and attempted
to install uphclean-setup.msi but it WOULD NOT install because it said there
was another installation taking place.

Thanks for your attention.

Sounds like a number of issues that have gotten compounded, by
attempting random solutions. First off I wouldn't have purchased
a Registry Cleaner, but I guess it was worth a try.

You're saying you've experienced issues for 9-months ? Have
you checked your System/Application event logs for errors and
warnings ? Hopefully, you have a System Image taken and stored
away to undo any changes the Registry Cleaner did. ( I wouldn't
trust Registry backups/undo created by the application).

Since MS-Money seems to be a root of the issue, I would burn
the purchased update to CD-R. Then I would uninstall all versions
of Money from the computer.

Have you done Microsoft Updates, that include the newest MS
installer software ?

As to the shutdown issue - I would have downloaded and run the
User Profile Hive Cleanup Service add-on:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6d-8912-4e18-b570-42470e2f3582&DisplayLang=en

Your problems might be solvable, but in cases like you have the
more random actions that are taken the harder it is to resolve them.
For what it's worth, I would do future work on the problem from
the Administrator account, to avoid issues with your day-to-day
profile interfering.

I have already tried the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service and got the error
I already mentioned.

I will try to uninstall Money and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I posted the same original thread under the Money subject so we'll see if
anyone there has a different take.
