I am having a problem when I shut down my computer.
The screen stays...saving settings. I eventually have to shut down using
the computer button.

Windows XP Home

You are having profile unload problems if you experience slow logoff (with
Saving your settings for most of the time while logging off).

If you see a lot of Userenv/1517, Userenv/1524 or Userenv/1500 errors in the
Event Viewer, download and install the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service.

This decreased my shutdown time a bunch. Takes any where from 10 to 20
seconds to shutdown.

C:\Program Files\UPHClean\uphclean.exe is added.

The User Profile Hive Cleanup service gets added to Services and
uphclean.exe wiil run all the time. I am one that doesn't like to have any
extra services running, but I am sold on UPHClean.

Where is the "event viewer"?

To get to Event Viewer rt click MyComputer>select Manage. Look in the
top left column for Event Viewer.

I tried using the UHPclean service. Unfortunately, the only way I can log
into my computer is in Safe mode. The service does not work. I can't get
passed the logon screen. I get "windows will not create a temporary profile
directory. This may be caused by insufficient security rights". I then get
"windows can not load the users profile but has logged you on with a default
profile for the system. Insufficient resources exists to complete the
requested service". Then I get a box with an x in it". I am then brought back
to the logon screen. Is there a way in XP Professional to by-pass the logon
screen and go right to windows.

Frustrated.
