Shut down problem

My computer will not shut down from the xp shut down or even when I press the
off button. It runs to the "windows is shutting down" screen but just stays
on. I have to cut the power to get it to shut down. Does anyone know why and
how I can fix it? thanks

Perhaps you want to try enabling the verbose status and working from there.
