shut down windows without the computer turning off AND use DOS

I want to shut windows down, but I don't want the computer to turn off. I
also want to be able to use dos (game runs in dos, not through windows). I
have windows XP home edition on an HP pavilion xt938. Newsgroups told my to
go into control panel and click power options, then uncheck the enable
advanced power management support, but my power options does not have an
"enable advanced power management support", the closest I have is
"hybernation" - not what I want. Can you help me? I just want to turn off
windows and run in dos mode, not run dos through windows.

There is no DOS included with Windows XP and running in a pure DOS
prompt mode is not possible.

If running the DOS emulator under Windows XP is not suitable for your
requirements then you need to configure your computer to boot multiple
operating systems, including separate hard drive partitions for each,
and install either a version of MS-DOS or one of the 9X family of
Windows that does include a DOS mode (Windows 95, 98,or 98SE but not
Windows Me).

Good luck
