shut down unexpectedly

Running Home Premium.

Explorer "shut down unexpectedly".

Checked for solution and it said I need to install KB938979-x86. When I
attempted to do so I received a message that the update does not apply to my
system.

What the hell is that about?

There are 2 versions of this patch... one is for 32 bit and the other for 64
bit. Make sure you try the correct one for your system.

Bob,

There is a setting that causes Vista to re-boot on a system failure. This
setting unfortunately can mask whatever is causing the problem. I routinely
turn it off. Here's how:

Click:
Start
Control Panel
System
Advances Settings (on the left side under "tasks")
Advanced Tab on the System Properties
Settings button in the Startup and Recovery section
Uncheck the "Automatically Restart" checkbox in the System Failure section

Click Ok

As I said, this won't solve whatever the underlying problem is but you may
get a chance to see what caused the shutdown.

I would definitely look at the event viewer as a starting point.
