Show Desktop doesn't show desktop

Mike

I just got a new Dell computer about a week ago with XP
Home Edition. It worked fine until the 2nd day I had it,
when I clicked the Show Desktop button in Quick Launch.
It had an error saying that XP couldn't open a file
called Show Desktop.scf and asked me what program to open
it with. None of the listed programs opened the file.

Now I am stuck with the Windows logo key and the M button
on my keyboard being the only way to quickly minimize all
of my windows. Please help as soon as possible.

You can recreate the Show Desktop Icon and scf file. Delete the one you
have now and follow these instructions.

Open Notepad and enter the following:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the file as Show Desktop.scf on your Desktop (make sure Save As Type is
set to All Files, not *.txt) then drag and drop it onto the Quick Launch
bar. Put a copy into C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Mike,
The .SCF file association is hijacked. Get the SCF association fix from:

I have tried this with the same error as before. There
are other .scf files on my computer that also have this
problem, like C:/i386/View Channels.scf and
C:/Windows/Explorer.scf.
