This may sound like a silly question but what are the pros and cons of
leaving a modem and router on 24 hours a day. I turn my computers (two) on
in the morning and unless I'm going to be gone for more then half the day, I
just leave them on. The modem and router are on 24 hrs. a day. Is it
better to turn them off when the computers are off? Will it make them last
longer if I turn them off at night when I'm not using the computer? Thanks,
Mack

I never turn mine off. Solid state don't like going on and off. (serge).

Unless you have problems with excessive electricity consumption, leave the
computers running as well..

Ignoring electricity usage, for the moment:
Things with no moving parts (the router and the modem) will almost
certainly last longer if turned on all the time (unless their
environment gets extremely hot) since they are mainly stressed by
on/off cycling. Things with moving parts (HDs and fans in computers)
have at least some aspect of their lifespan determined by the wear
induced by friction in their bearings, as well as by on/off cycling.
For this and fire prevention reasons, I tend to turn my computer off
at night or if I am going to be away all day, but not if I am just
leaving it for a couple of hours.

Unless you have problems with excessive electricity consumption, leave the
computers running as well..
