My AV software (Grisoft AVG) often reports "change" in shell32.dll. Is this
something to be concerned about and if not, why does the AV software flag it
up as if something important?

Thanks,

Jim

AVG & user32.dll, shell32.dll and ntoskrnl.exe

Ignore it. user32.dll, shell32.dll and ntoskrnl.exe.

Some Windows Critical Updates install new versions of these files.

why does the AV software
flag it up as if something important?

Because AVG saw a change in the file and has no idea who or what changed it,
so it brings it to your attention.
