replacing shell32.dll

My virus checker just reported that it found and deleted a file infected with
the VB.aug worm. It also reported the shell32.dll as changed since the prior
run. I am running WXP Pro SP2 and am wondering: how is the best way to
replace the shell32.dll as a precaution? My Dell OS install CD will
apparently not allow replacement of ind OS files, etc., only a re-install of
the whole OS. Any pointers appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Open a Run command and type in:
regsvr32 shell32.dll click [OK]
Note the space between resvr32_shell32.dll.
You can Run this command also if the above didn't solve your problem:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and let it run it will take a while so be patient
and get your CD handy to insert it if it asked you to do so.
HTH.

Thank you. Tried both of your suggestions below; the first indicated it was
successful, the second exited with no other action requested. My virus
checker still reports the shell32.dll as changed - like before ????

I will recommend to scan from another vendor to be safe the worm is
completely rid of.
But before doing this you need to delete the TEMp and run disk cleanup:
C:\Windows\Temp\Teporary Internet Files\Cookies = Select All and SHIFT +
Delete
C:\Windows\Temp\Teporary Internet Files\ContentIE.5 = <Delete all Temp
folders here>
Scan from here for the Worm:
http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/bugbear_b.shtml#disinf

Removal Tool from Norton from here:
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2003-060518-0958-99
Run a scan from here online:
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
Download Avast Cleaner from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html
Lots of tools to download and disinfect your machine:
http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Downloads/browseFreeRemovalTool/

For Malwares download both these software:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
