Ran anti-virus AVG Free Edition and here are the results:
File Result/Infection Path
shell32.dll Change
C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll

Just what does this mean?
What kind of change?
Is it serious?
Please provide information on this.

Thanks, the information was helpful. The other night I ran error checking
(under local disk property tools). I took for ever, this probably explains
the change.

AVG & user32.dll, shell32.dll and ntoskrnl.exe

Ignore it. user32.dll, shell32.dll and ntoskrnl.exe.

Some Windows Critical Updates install new versions of these files.

Error Checking (chkdsk.exe) does not change files. The Error-checking tool
checks for file system errors and bad sectors on your hard disk and attempts
to fix file system errors and attempts recovery of bad sectors.
