System Restore problem

Hello:

My computer is a Dell 4600 with SP2 and all subsequent patches applied.

When accessing the system restore tab within the system icon of the control
panel, I receive this message:

An exception occured while trying to run

"C:\Windows\System32\Shell32.dll,ControlRunDll
"C:\Windows\System32\sysdm.cpl",System"

SP2 modified sysdm.cpl, but it made no changes to shell32.dll. Please note
that there is a space between ControlRunDll and "C:\Windows.
What is wrong, and how can it be fixed?

I run Norton AV, Sybot, and Ad_Aware. I use ZoneAlarm. My system lies
behind a Linksys router, and has a hidden IP address.

Hi Jim,

Try this first. Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and rename Sysdm.cpl to Sysdm.xxx
The file will be automatically replaced in a couple of second.
Try running System Restore.

If that doesn't work, then reinstalling System Restore will.

Note: All restore points will be lost in the process.

How to reinstall System Restore:

This did. By the way, it asked for the file srframe.mmf, which I found in
C:\i386. Evidently, this file was unchanged for SP2 because it was not in
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles.

That is OK. I wanted to delete them anyway.
Thanks!!
