With Outlook Express V5's address book (the Windows Address Book), there was
an option to use Outlook's Address Book. With OE V6, that's gone. The only
way to share addresses between OL and OE is to export them from OL in either
a Personal Address Book format or a Comma-Separated Value format and import
them into OE. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=242537. OL 98 and
OL2000 Internet Mode Only could also reference the Windows Address Book
directly. For OL2002 and 2003, you can use File>Import and Export>Import
Internet Mail and Addresses and select Outlook Express 4.x, 5.x, 6.x with
the Import Address Book box checked.

Why not on OE6 ?
In OE6:
Open the address book, go to TOOL and OPTIONS and click the top of the two
buttons "Share contact information with Outlook........"
Works fine for me.

Interesting. I have no "Options" item in the Tools menu.

Brian,
When you open just the address book by clicking on the Address book icon,
you do not have a TOOLS with ACCOUNT, OPTIONS and ACTIONS on it ? That is
the only place that I have ever seen this sharing address books before.

Nope. I have Account, Actions, and Synchronize Now. My WAB version is
6.00.2800.1123

You have me on the answer. On this PC I have the newer version,
6.00.2900.2082, but also checked my other PC that has the same version as
you and it did have the Options function. So I am at a loss on this one !

Since I'm up-to-date on all downloads for Windows XP and IE 6, as far as
Microsoft tells me, where did you get your newer version?

If you have MSDN, TechNet or are a registered Beta tester you can get it. I
have been a Beta tester for about 5 years and enjoyed it (most of the
time...)

Guys,
The ability to share OE's address book with Outlook has nothing whatsoever
to do with the version of OE. It is determined solely by the version of
Outlook and is available only in outlook 98/2000's IMO mode. Beyond that, it
takes a reg hack to do it.

You know, I think I remember you stating this before. Sorry for not
remembering.

No one can possibly keep track of the various features Outlook has included,
then abandoned, and possibly even included again. Supporting Outlook is like
trying to nail Jell-O to a tree. Especially when you're the fax guy.

False. There is no such feature in Outlook 2003.
It could only do so if you did an in place upgrade from Outlook 2000 IMO (in
which case you have a corrupt profile) or if you have hacked the registry to
point the WAB to your Outlook Contacts File.

You turn it on in Outlook Express under Address book, TOOLS, OPTIONS and
then select "Share contact information among Outlook and other
applications..."

Can send you a screen print if you do not believe it. I upgraded from
Outlook 2002 and have not attempted to hack the registry. Also you can check
with PSS support, that is the place I first heard of it.

Why would I make up a option that is not there ? I sure would not have
anything to gain.

Post the link.
No such option in any released version of Outlook or OE.
SP2 is another matter. It is certainly an easy feature to add with a simple
registry change.

I'm well aware of the option. I simply know that it has not existed since
Microsoft abandoned IMO mode. Why do none of the rest of have this option?

Check your registry. I bet you've got the DWORD and its set to 1.

The feature has been well documented in the Windows CE and Pocket PC groups
since 1999 since the PDA's only work with Outlook. As I have said, No
registry changes were made by me. First documented by other MVP's (Frank
McPherson and is in his book "Everything you always wanted to do with your
iPaq PDA" PSS came from Paul Hayes, Technical Lead-PSS WA MPS Desktop. It
also runs on my Windows 98SE with OE 6.0.2800 and Outlook 2002. Screen
Print for you included. Sorry but you have some incorrect information on
this one.

Russ,
In looking at my Registry.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
There are multiple DWORD entrys, Some sent to 0,1,4,276 (cannot find a way
to copy this to show you)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4
On the Dword, I have:
FirstRun =1
OlkContactRefresh =0
OlkFolderRefresh=0
UseOutlook=1
At the top of these, I have "ab"(Default) Type=REG_SZ Value not set.

And under WAB4 are two folders, LastFind (Data=Contacts) and Wab File Name
(Data=C:\Documents and Settings\.....Sony.wab)

So It looks like to answer your question, yes the DWORD is set to 1, but not
by me as I am not knowable enough in using the Register to change it. Did
that once in Win98SE and had all kinds of problems, so have never touched it
again.

I am not trying to argue with you as I am sure you know far more about
Outlook then I, just stating what mine does. How it got that way is a
mystery to me. Since both of my PC's have ActiveSync, hard to tell if that
had any changes on the system, but will remove it on my non-production unit
and try it out with Outlook 2003 as that one I have not upgraded to 2003 and
still running 2002 (Outlook version)
