Sharing .pst's with no Exchange server

I'm attempting to share a .pst between serveral client PCs; one PC would act
as the "server" and the other two would access the .pst file on it; actually,
all three machines would access it from this location. What i've done was to
install Outlook 2K3 on all PCs, create a share to the "server" from the other
two client PCs, which would point to the location of the .pst file there, in
theory.

Question 1: Does this make sense to you?
Question 2: Why doesn't Outlook recognize the path to the .pst on the
"server?"
Question 3: Why does Outlook re-create the default path to the .pst locally?

No, this doesn't make sense, because .pst files are not designed for sharing
in the first place and because Microsoft doesn't support .pst files on
network folders and warns that performance degradation and data loss may
result.
