We are new to windows XP and have created 2 users on our
computer but don't know how to arrange for sharing of
programs between the users....any ideas? Thanks in
advance!

You can install for all users from the ADMIN account or
drop shortcuts to the programs in the all users file in
the documents and settings folder...

Hi Chez,

It depends largely on the program. Some software will install just fine for
both users, others will need to be installed under each users profile. The
easiest way to do this is to install it under one user and make sure the
program shortcut is placed in the all users folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

Then log on (you can user fast user switching for this if you want) to the
other account and try to run the shortcut. An error message means you
probably need to install it under this profile as well. This is because the
software was written for older versions of Windows (like Win98) that did not
use "true" user profiles with separate settings for each.

If the accounts are admin level or power user level, then they have
installation priviledges. If the account is a limited user, then to install
the software, you will need to right click the installation file (setup.exe
usually) and use "run as" to start it. You may also need to give the
limited user escalated priviledges on the folder used to house the program.
This can help with that:
