Windows 7 Question

Townsend, Kate

I cannot find a newsgroup that answers Windows 7 questions. If there is a
newsgroup for Windows 7, can you please tell me the name?

We are upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7. We have a fileserver
(running Server 2003 SP2) where our users' documents are stored. We
configure the user's folder with their last name, such as Smith. After we
complete the configuration of the Windows 7 computer, I notice that the
folder name on our fileserver has changed, say to Jones, but the share name
is still Smith. So I have multiple folders on our fileserver with the
folder name of Jones. I have noticed this issue on all of our Windows 7
users.

Do you know how I can resolve this issue?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Well, you are looking in the wrong place. These newsgroups are going
bye-bye because MS doesn't want to do NNTP anymore. Guessing it has to
do with the majority of their userbase is too damn clueless to know what
it is. Check out alt.windows7.general on eternal-september.org or aioe.org

Windows 7 NewsGroups

As the msnews.microsoft.com server is being phased out, there will only
be Windows 7 forums - no (microsoft) newsgroups anymore.

You should be able to access the new Microsoft forums on your newsreader by
using and installing an NNTP bridge.

http://connect.microsoft.com/MicrosoftForums/

However, there are other newsgroups on other servers :

alt.msdos.batch
alt.windows-xp
alt.windows7.general

....on server :

nntp.aioe.org

....are three groups on one of them.
