Windows Explorer: Open in directory on fileserver

Abel MacAdam

Hi,

When I want to have a Windows Explorer (WE) window I press the Windows Key
and the E-Key at the same time. WE opens in 'This Computer', showing all
partitions and all fileserver directories. I have a file on the fileserver.
Would it be possible to open WE in that directory?

It is possible to create a shortcut in your start menu, or on your desktop.
You can change the 'Target' in the Properties of Windows Explorer from:
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe
to
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e, H:\Workspace

When you press that shortcut, WE will open in the desired directory on the
fileserver (e.g. H:\Workspace). But I would like to accomplish that with the
'Windows+E' key combination. Is that possible?

Right-click drag the H:\Workspace folder & drop it on your Desktop (Create
Shortcut Here)

Right-click | Properties & see the shortcut set to none. Click for example
CTRL + ALT + E (cannot use Windows + E), click APPLY | OK

Move it to C drive etc just to get it out of the way & now try your shortcut
combination. Better would be to drag it to the quicklaunch so it's always
available

Although, if you create a shorcut to that directory you won't need to create
a shortcut to it

With programming pneumonics you can remove Windows + E as Explorer but
what's the point?
