Sharing Printers Across the network

I have 2 Windows XP Pro machines setup on a Peer-to-peer
network. The main machine has two printers Epson on LPT1
and HP on LPT2. I've shared the printers and the 2nd
machine can print fine. But under its printer properties
it also says the Epson is on LPT1 and the HP on LPT2. I
need it to say \\main\epson - the network address. I
don't understand how it can say LPT1, which is a local
port, and still print across the network.

Hi -

The reason machine #2 prints fine is that the network
address is mapped to a physical port - some applications
need that if they're not network-aware. What happens is
the networking components on machine #2 intercept traffic
for the local LPT port and send it across the network
instead. If you look at the printer properties on
machine #2 you should see where the local parallel port
is redirected to a network share.

Hope this helps -
