shared printer problem

I have two computers running W2K pro and W95 connected
through D-link DI-704P router. My HP DeskJet 722C printer
is hooked to W2K box via LPT1 parallel port and shared. It
uses Windows provided driver. The printer works ok from
W2K machine.

I cannot print to it from W95 box. I have added and
deleted the printer (as a network printer) a number of
times. When I try to istall HP driver for the printer it
says the driver is already installed. The printer
installation wizard does not see the driver, asks for a
disk, and when pointed to the folder where the uzipped HP
driver is located, it stalls. Obviously I am doing
something wrong, but I do not know what.
The computers communicate with each other ok throug ping
command, also I can open shared files from both locations
on both machines.

I have posted this under W95 networking as well, although
this group seems to be more active. Will appreciate any
suggestions, frustrated, Jan

What I might suggest you try is...Try installing the
printer on the Win 95 box and tell it to use LPT1 and not
the network. Go ahead and put the printer on the 95
machine to see does it print when it is local. Many times
the printers and computers / drivers try to establish 2
way communication with each other and will hang if they do
not detect the print. If this works, move the printer
back to the 2000 machine. Leave the install for the
printer on the 95 system but now go and try to connect to
it on your network. It should then see that a driver is
installed already and just add another with the port being
changed. If this goes through and now prints you should
be fine to delete the local printer and just use the
newtrok share. Hope this helps out some. There are other
things called "Capture" whare you can set the 95 to
capture anything going to LPT1 and send it to another port
but the system and programs still see it as local.
Hopefully the prior will get you there though.
