Shared Fax Service

Steve

I use the Shared Fax service on Windows 2000 SBS & have
2000 & XP Professional clients sending faxes to the
server.

When clients send a fax there is an option in the send
fax wizard to recieve a notification that the fax has
been sent, either by e-mail or pop up message.

However, since I installed XP SP2 on the XP clients the
pop up message has stopped working. The fax still sends
successfully & the e-mail notification still works if
selected, but the pop up notification no longer works.

I think it's something to do with the Windows Firewall
but can't work out what ? I selected Unblock when I first
used the Shared Fax Service.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Similar reports are starting to trickle in, but I haven't been able to
reproduce it. Mine still works fine after SP2.
Please submit detailed steps to reproduce the problem so we can see if
there's anything going on here.

I am having the same problem and posted it a couple of
days ago. I tried turning the pop up blocker down and
then off, but have had no luck with the pop up fax
message. I am running SBS 2000. Hope we can figure this
out...I like the pop up message. We fax alot here from
our PC's.

I am having the same problem. As far as detailed steps
go, I am doing what I have always done to send out a fax.
What kind of info do you need? I have a Windows XP Pro pc
and am connected to a Windows Small Business Server 2000.

It could be the Messenger Service which is turned off by default in
SP2.

Bingo! Earl, that was the answer. I started the messenger
service on my workstation and I did get a pop up fax
messaged. I will let you all know if I have any weird
problems with this today. Thanks again!!!!

control panel/admin tools/services/messenger/ enable the
messenger service to automatic and click ok.

Since the Messenger Server causes you to get popup messages from
others besides those on your LAN if not properly configured, there
is a way to get printer notification from the Printers and Faxes
window. The path is File Menu/Server Properties/Advanced and put a
check in the appropriate boxes. I presume that that would work for
faxes too but I have no way to check it since I do not have a shared
fax.
