Shared Documents

Hi. Somehow, within the last few days, the 'Shared
Documents' folder on my PC has been renamed
to 'Documents', and the Shared Music folder inside shared
documents has been renamed to My Music. As far as I was
aware, these folders (at least the Shared Docs folder)
could not be renamed, yet they have been and i cannot
rename them back. Im also concerned that if i do somehow
rename it, then things are gonna start complaining that
they cant find the target folder (if u know what i mean).
Does anyone know how these folders got renamed, or more
importantly, how i might rename them back to thier
original name? Thanks.

BWN,
I actually had my shared docs folders and sub-
folders 'self-rename'. This was about 8 mos. ago. I have
not had any problems with the PC losing the target
directory. So you should not need to wory. As far as the
cause of why it does that, I have no idea. Hope this
helps you.

Funny you should say this as mine has done exactly the same thing, wonder if
it has something to do with the Service Pack update or something, I have
tried to right click and change the name back butit will not allow me to do
so. I have not encountered any problems with it, but I do like things a
certain way. Anyone got any advice please?

Did someone (or something) play with the "Desktop.ini" files that were in
those folders?

[From http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_f.htm ].
Question: One of my special folders (e.g. My Documents, My Music, My
Pictures, Shared Documents, etc) has lost its name, lost its icon, or has
the wrong Task Pane template, how can I get it back?

Answer: This problem can occur if the hidden desktop.ini file in the
special folder is corrupt or missing. Here are the steps to fix this
problem.

Open the special folder, then in the address bar type \desktop.ini at the
end of the path and press enter. This will open Notepad.

If, instead of opening Notepad, you get a message saying Windows cannot
find the file right click in the folder and select properties, then go to
the Customize tab and click Change Icon then click OK and click OK again.
This will create a desktop.ini with the correct Hidden and System
attributes. Now you can repeat the first step.

In Notepad change the text of the file to the correct text specified below
(My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, My Videos, Favorites, Shared
Documents, Shared Music, Shared Pictures, Shared Videos). Then save the
file and exit Notepad.

Shared Documents:
[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-21785

Shared Music:
[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-12689
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
IconIndex=-237
[email protected],-28995

Shared Pictures:
[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-12688
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\mydocs.dll
IconIndex=-101
[email protected],-28997

Shared Videos:
[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-12690
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
IconIndex=-238
[email protected],-28996

You'll need to restart (or at least log off) for the changes to take
effect).
