Shared Documents

I have two laptop computers running Windows XP Home SP2. On one, the
system folder, "Shared Documents", has somehow been renamed to
"Documents". On the other, the folder is named "Shared Documents" as
expected. Both are system folders and cannot be renamed.

How did one folder get renamed to "Documents" and how can I get it
renamed back to "Shared Documents"?

The Desktop.ini file is missing or messed up for the Shared Documents
folder.

You have to be able to view Hidden Files and Folders in order to see any
desktop.ini files.

If there is a desktop.ini file in the Shared Documents folder the reads as
Documents it should read as follows:

[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-21785

Ignore the underlines.

That was the problem, no desktop.ini file! I copied the desktop.ini
file from my other laptop to the "Documents" folder and changed the
computer name and everything is back to normal. (A little hassle to
change attribute, edit file and change attribute back.) Thanks very
much. I have asked this question several times in other news groups
and got either no answer or was told that system folders cannot be
renamed.

Thanks, jimbo

I'm having the same problem. (I'm surprised it's not causing more problems
though, as all my itunes files are in there, but itunes doesn't have a
problems finding them, even though the folder name has been changed?!?)

However, I found a copy of the desktop.ini file and changed the content to
what you've posted:

[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-21785

but when I try to put it in the 'documents' folder, it tells me that that
file already exists. However, as I can't get into the 'documents' folder to
look at what data the file has, how do I make sure it's correct?

I'm not a computer expert, so there might be some big obvious thing I'm
missing.

?
