I have DELL Dimension 8300, win xp pro with SP2. I have noticed that
under Documents and Settings/All Users I have a folder named Documents
instead of Shared Documents. Furthermore, I have no Shared Documents
folder under My Computer.

I'm the only user (I have tried making the guest account active as well
inactive) on the machine and have admistrative rights. Whenever I try to
access the All Users/Documents folder, I am denied access. This has come
to my attention after viewing the setup log for WMP 10 which had a
failed install and pointed to this as the problem.

How do I get the Shared Documents folder to show back up?

Thanks,
Harvey

Hi Harvey,

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\My
Computer\NameSpace\DelegateFolders

There needs to be a sub-key named {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee} to
have shared folders. If it is missing, add it.

Or: Edit the desktop.ini file under All Users\Documents and add the
following

[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-21785

[email protected],-33192

More info:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

To get an account's My Documents folder to appear in Windows Explorer (Files
stored on this computer), add/edit a key in the DocFolderPaths branch like
so:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DocFolderPaths]
"user"="C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents"

In the right pane, right click and choose New/String Value. Give it the
name of the user. Double click the name once added and type in:
C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\My Documents

TweakUI/My Computer/Files stored on this computer

Thank you. A combination of your desktop.ini modification and my
obtaining ownership of the files and folders in question seems to have
resolved the problem.

Great, glad to hear it, Harvey. Glad all is well and you are most welcome.
:o)
