Offline Folder + Folder Re-direct

I have laptop users who have their "My Documents" folder re-directed
to a network share and then have that share setup as an offline
folder. All of this is controlled through Group Policies, a few users
have a peculiar problem:
If they change files intheir "My Documents" area while away from the
network, when they come back to the office and login, the
synchronization fails, claiming they don't have permissions to the
files in their 'My Documents" folder.

If they logoff, the synchronization processes correctly without any
errors, and when they log back in a second time everything is fine.

The other part of the issue is if they don't synchronize they can't
access other network shares from the same server that hosts their "My
Documents".

Any ideas? What additional information would help?

On any domain I admin, we have removed Offline Folders because of issues
with syncing. I have experienced the same as what you are seeing. On
most we have gone with Symantec DLO. It has solved all laptop
backup/sync issues.

The only suggestion I have is make sure the user has turned off their
laptop when leaving the other location before connecting to the domain.
Many laptop users put their laptop in standby or hibernation from
their last location and then just resume when they are at work. The
laptops never properly log in at that point.
