I recently purchased a laptop with XP Home Edition.
Today, I purchased Office XP Professional to upgrade my
computer. However, the system is giving an error message
of:
"Error 1608. Setup was unable to locate a qualifying
product".

What can I do?

It sounds like you purchased the UPGRADE to MS Office without having a copy of Office to upgrade.
Ofiice XP is not the same as Windows XP Pro
