I have a laptop with WIN2K that is setup so that when I
logon it is setup for our domain.

Now I want to use it for stand alone use.
When I type in my password, it says cannot logon.

if you have a "Options >>" button, click on it.
change it to the NAME of the computer (NetBIOS name).
put in a LOCAL user/password combination -- try again. if you still
can't login, you'll have to use the recovery console (good luck if you
can't login via GUI), or connect the computer up to another system (via
crossover USB cabme, or preferrably ethernet). try to connect to
\\<NETBIOS NAME>\C$ with a user/pass combo. if all fails, you're gonna
have to either reformat and reinstall, or get it back to that domain and
login and then recover your files.

Good luck.
