setup hangs black screen

Tring to load xp (clean install) on pIII 500 ,384mb ram,
maxtor HD. Ever thing seems fine. Copies the setup files
onto hard drive from cd but when setup reboots to finish
setup from hard drive it will not boot. As soon as it
tries to boot from harddrive it stops and black screen and
hang there.

Update your BIOS, remove any unneccesary hardware and try rebooting.

I have tried all of that ,have latest bios. Have found
out since last post that if I set my board speed back to
66; win xp loads without problem. But when I go back to
bios to reset back to the right cpu and 100 bus it will
hang just like before. Mem is pc100. Don't know what to
do next.
