Setup goes blank at "Setup is inspecting hardware configuration"

Hi all,

I'm trying to install Windows XP SP1 on a system that has
the following configuration:
Intel D865PERL motherboard
Pentium 4 2.66 GHz processor
1 GB DDR memory
Seagate 80 GB IDE
PNY Verto GeForce FX 5200 128 MB AGP

I'm doing a clean install and booting from the XP CD. Setup
starts, displays the message "Setup is inspecting your
hardware configuration" and the screen goes blank. I hear
the CD spinning and see the processor/videocard fans
spinning, so the system is running. Does anyone know how
the cause and solution to this problem?

Thanks,
Rohan

That is typically video related. I havent seen any issues with the 5200's
though. I would try a BIOS update to the motherboard if one is available to
make sure you have the latest AGP driver installed on the board. Maybe an
older video card?

Hi Joseph,

Thanks for the reply. I isolated the problem and found out
that it is the IDE hard disk that's holding up Setup. I'm
investigating it to verify if it is the hard disk that's
bad or the IDE controller is broken.

Thanks,
Rohan
