Setup inspecting hardware configuration forever!

Hi,

My WinXP installation got corrupted due to reasons unknown resulting in my
PC not going beyond the OS choices menu.

Now I am trying to use my XP CD to repair the installation but it prints the
initial "setup is inspecting hardware.. " message and then all I see is a
blank screen.
The HDD light keeps showing activity.

Any idea, how to rectify this?

Apparently, you have a hardware problem.
Maybe defective RAM, hard drive, or motherboard.
